Robin and Bonte Freddy

Origin of the De Rauw-Sablon Strain

That between two totally different characters a synergy can grow, that can totally take the pigeon sport by storm, is demonstrated by Frans Sablon and Etienne de Rauw. Where the progressive and phlegmatic old brewer Frans forged an outstanding family of pigeons, the conservative bank employee Etienne led them to the highest levels of the Belgian Nationals. Despite both men going there own ways in 2003, there is no other strain that dominates on the tougher one day distance races as the De Rauw-Sablon strain.
With an eye for pure class Frans and Etienne build an inbred strain of winners, with a large portion of Jef de Ridder pigeons - mixed with a touch of Roseel (Barcelona pigeons) and Tournier... rounded off with the introduction of the super cock "Freddy" via Vandenheede. It brought the tandem from Lebbeke, National titles and National Ace Pigeons; their Dream Pair "Albert" x "Paola" and exceptional racers and breeders such as "De Limoges", "Goudklompje", and "Den Dromer" meanwhile are renowned world-wide. The De Rauw-Sablon pigeons only became world famous when Marcel Aelbrect ( neighbour Frans Sablon) had the 1st National Ace Pigeon and became the 1st National Champion with offspring of the "cast offs" from, at that time, the already dissolved De Rauw-Sablon partnership. Erik Limbourg also created a furor with the 1st National Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB 2005 (a direct De Rauw-Sablon), 1st National Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB 2006 (50% De Rauw-Sablon) and 2nd National Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB 2007 (a direct De Rauw-Sablon)...meanwhile it seems that there are no longer National winners born in Belgium that have not been blessed with these noble bloodlines.
